Cafe Case Study: Boiler The Studio- Bucharest, Romania

|

What made you want to open a cafe?

Boiler The STUDIO is our 5th coffee shop in Bucharest. But this one is special because it is like a hidden gem for us, a rare piece of jewelry.

It is located in a lavish area of Bucharest packed with beautiful villas; we discovered a garage. We were inspired by the place: an old garage that could be reinvented into a coffee shop. We knew this could be the ultimate place to unleash our ”coffee-geek” passion.

So, every corner of this new shop talks about the technical, mathematical part of coffee: a well-structured universe where rules are learned but also reinvented. Paying an homage to all the artisans, making the coffee world unforgettable: the roasters, the technicians, the baristas.

How would you describe the brand of your cafe?

BOILER is a very community-driven coffee brand. Our tagline perfectly describes our philosophy: “Specialty coffee at the heart of every community.”

There are eight coffee shops in Bucharest under the Boiler brand, each with a well-defined identity rooted in the atmosphere and history of its urban area.

The Boiler Studio was inspired by a garage, The Boiler x Guido by one of Bucharest’s most important historical central areas, and The Boiler Piața Muncii by a neighborhood area. Coffee is the greatest community glue for us. What we have learned in the past years is that true hospitality can change a city for the better!

Describe the location/demographics of the area where you opened. Why did you choose this area?

It is an exquisite location in Bucharest, yet peaceful. It’s the perfect place to stroll towards one of the most beautiful parks of Bucharest or stop by for coffee before your morning run. Our target includes people who work and live or choose to come here as a weekend destination.

If you wake up on a Saturday morning and want to walk in the city and experience a good espresso and an extraordinary coffee, my guess is that Boiler The STUDIO will be one of the top choices on the list. We knew from the beginning that this was a perfect place for us to be ”the coffee geeks.”

What equipment are you using to make coffee? Why did you choose this equipment?

We’ve carefully selected our equipment, including the Modbar, a Mythos grinder MY75, EK43, and NUCLEUS Paragon espresso Chilling Rocks, to offer a truly unique coffee experience.

Our choice was driven by a desire to present coffee in a different light, one that invites our guests to be fully immersed in the preparation and enjoyment process.

Describe your bar or customer flow. Break this down for us. How did the equipment influence the flow or vice versa?

Our approach is all about interaction. We offer a minimalist menu featuring exceptional coffees, which we describe to our guests. We then tailor our recommendations to their taste profiles or curiosities, encouraging them to explore and taste the coffees. This interactive process, akin to a game, is enhanced by our equipment, making the coffee preparation a visually engaging experience where you’re involved in every step.

What’s one thing that makes your cafe unique?

You know there’s a joke amongst our guests. They say,” You come to Boiler alone for coffee and leave with new friends and new experiences.” I guess this describes us very well. It is about extraordinary coffee but also about the whole experience around the coffee—the beautiful design, the city’s culture, the people.

The Boiler @ The STUDIO is special because of its unique design —the stainless steel walls are engraved with a car model on one part and a deconstructed Modbar espresso machine on the other. One single furniture piece resembles a multifunctional object inspired by the design style of the ’60s.
