Cafe Case Study: Milosc Praga, Warsaw Poland

|

This post is another in our Cafe Case Study series. We interview cafe owners to learn about the vision behind their space and then ask them a bit about the equipment they chose and why they made that decision.

Use these case studies as inspiration for your own cafe dreams or simply to get a behind-the-scenes look at some beautiful coffee spaces around the world.

What made you want to open a coffee shop?

For several years we have been co-creating places and developing the culture of drinking specialty coffee, both in Warsaw and throughout Poland.

We started with an event company, then a barista school through a chain of cafes at some private Warsaw universities later the Waszyngton cafe. This shows that the market is open to new places and residents of nearby housing estates are keen to visit cafes where they can taste a high specialty coffee.

We live nearby our new cafe Milosc Praga,’ and we know there is still a gap in the market and room for growth in the future.

How would you describe the brand?

We created a cafe with the highest quality specialty coffee and tasty homemade cakes, designing an area for coffee, tea equipment, and accessories. The place’s name refers to the Praga district and the local community as we opened our doors, especially for them.

Every day – as ‘’parents-owners’’ – we welcome everyone with a smile and our motto: #fortheloveofcoffee #fortheloveofPraga!

What equipment are you using to make coffee? Why did you choose this equipment?

Our main equipment is Modbar. When choosing the coffee machine, it was important for us to select the best quality equipment combined with other elements like coffee beans, water, and the barista. Moreover, our interior design was focused on a minimalistic theme, and Modbar is the only coffee machine available on the market which ticks all the boxes. We were also joking that, as we are not very tall, finally our customers would see us from behind the coffee desk.

We also use alternative methods, like at home, for example, the overflow machines: Moccamaster, Chemex, or Kalita.

Describe your bar or customer flow. break this down for us. how did the equipment influence the flow? or vice versa?

When it comes to customer flow – it goes smoothly. Guests come to us for a chat over coffee – it’s essential to serve them as soon as possible though they come here to relax and chill out, not stressed about the coffee being served 2 or 3 minutes later than expected.

Currently, we are focused on one group coffee machine, which works perfectly well for us. Of course, we are hoping that the customer flow will increase and we will add another group – we are ready for it, and we can expand the coffee bar if needed. For now, we enjoy that close interaction with our neighborhood.

Describe the location/demographics of the area where you opened. Why did you choose this area?

As mentioned earlier, the general location wasn’t chosen out of the blue. We wanted this place to be very close to our home so that we could keep a close eye on our business and be there on time in case of urgencies.

Living in the neighborhood, our friends often ask us for a recommendation. We decided that it is a good moment to give our neighbors a chance to start their day with a decent cup of coffee – without making a trip to the other side of the city. Our district is expanding, and new homes are being built, especially for parents with children.

As we all know, it’s tricky to pack the whole family and drive a few minutes in traffic to eat breakfast, and not everyone has time for it. Now residents of Praga and Grochowo have a neighborhood cafe they can rely on!

What’s one thing that makes your coffee shop special?

People!

For us people, our guests and members of staff, are essential. On the one hand, we would like everybody to feel like they are home here, this includes family, friends, the neighborhood, and newcomers.
