Cafe Case Study: Bang & Olufsen, new showroom in Bucharest Romania

|

This post is another in our Cafe Case Study series. We interview cafe owners to learn about the vision behind their space and then ask them a bit about the equipment they chose and why they made that decision.

Use these case studies as inspiration for your own cafe dreams or simply to get a behind-the-scenes look at some beautiful coffee spaces around the world.

The Details:

The Bang & Olufsen newly opened Bucharest showroom.

As told by Monica Burnel, Bang & Olufen collaborator.

What made you want to open a space?

Our core business is selling premium home audio-video equipment. For our new showroom, we wanted to have a place where customers came to relax, work and meet with friends on a regular basis.

We knew nothing about running a coffee shop and didn’t drink specialty coffee frequently. So we went to a barista class and learned how poor our understanding of coffee was. We began drinking good specialty coffee and never went back.

We found many similarities with our core business. Our products are also an acquired taste, once you start using them regularly, you start appreciating the quality and you get hooked.

Describe the location/demographics of the area where you opened. Why did you choose this area?

Our goal was to find a great location in the affluent North Bucharest area, with a storefront that was located on the main road.

What equipment are you using to make coffee? Why did you choose this equipment?

The Modbar. The design was the main reason for our decision, as Bang & Olufsen brand is well known for its Scandinavian, minimalist design.

Modbar was the only espresso machine that fit that bill.

This is how we met Afshin Roshanian (Artisan Coffee Gear), who helped us decide on the rest of the equipment.

We are still looking for a sustainable solution for our cups and considering a filter coffee brewing solution in the coming months.

What’s one thing that makes your cafe special?

We are named Beo Cafe. Powered by coffee and music.

Our place is special because we have good music, the best sound in town and a cozy, livable atmosphere.
