Tightrope Coffee. Cebu City, Philippines. Opened in 2018. Founded by Gabe Pepito. As told by him.

What made you want to open a cafe?

I got really interested in opening up a cafe way back in 2015 when I had my first cup of specialty coffee in Manila. At that time Cebu City had no real specialty cafe and I was determined to open one up and finally did in 2018.

How would you describe the brand of your cafe?

Tightrope for me is a brand that is focused on quality and the never-ending pursuit of perfecting the coffee experience.

What equipment are you using to make coffee? Why did you choose this equipment?

We opened the first branch with a La Marzocco Strada AV and it’s going strong without failure for three years. In our newly opened flagship cafe, we are using a two-group Modbar Espresso AV and it has been a dream to work with.

Describe your bar or customer flow. break this down for us. how did the equipment influence the flow? or vice versa?

Our bar was designed around the Modbar and how to showcase this beautiful kit of equipment. We took 6 months in creating our 2 concrete bars which are placed in the middle of the cafe. Placing the bar right smack in the middle of the cafe had its own challenges mainly electrical and plumbing since we had to integrate this seamlessly.

Describe the location/demographics of the area where you opened. Why did you choose this area?

We just opened our flagship cafè a few months back here in the midtown part of our city close to schools and hospitals. We decided to open up in this location as the foot traffic is really nice and you get a mix of different demographics from students to doctors.

What’s one thing that makes your cafe special?

One thing that makes us special is out constant drive in perfecting the coffee experience.
